A self-taught painter, Lucien Gondret was born on February 21, 1941 in Marines, in the Vexin region he loved so much. A painter of international renown, he spent his entire youth in Chars, where he observed with admiration the nature he loved above all else: wheat fields, ploughed fields, forests, the old villages of the Vexin with their local limestone, old disused wash-houses - all subjects he would continue to paint throughout his life. A self-taught artist, Lucien Gondret has been a member of the Salon des Artistes Français Grand Palais since 1977, has been listed in the Bénézit since 1999, and was awarded the Prix d'Excellence at the Raymond Duncan Grand Prix in New York.Lucien Gondret is a wonderful ambassador for French art and culture on five continents, with his private collections.The Vexin painter has organized exhibitions in several French cities, Germany, Japan, the United States, Moscow and China. His paintings are in private collections in Switzerland, Spain, the Netherlands, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Great Britain, Belgium, Ireland, Venezuela and Italy. Letter from Jean Cocteau He first exhibited two paintings at the Salon d'Automne in L'Isle-Adam, at the age of 16. Two years later, he received a letter from Jean Cocteau (French poet, graphic artist, draughtsman, playwright and film-maker) congratulating him on "the splendor of his work".
