A delightful French art deco lamp on a solid marble base. This lamp is from the 1930s and is signed by its maker, Louis Carvin, with images of two sea lions playing with a ball. The crackled glass globe has a beautiful texture and spreads a warm glow once lit. Louis-Albert Carvin was a French artist known for his bronze, animal sculptures. Although he mainly created depictions of dogs, birds, wild cats, horses and other creatures, his most famous work was La Muse de l'aviation (1909). This work was a trophy commissioned by the Aero Club of Sarthe for Orville and Wilbur Wright. Born Aug. 7, 1875, in Paris, France, Carvin studied with Emmanuel Frémiet at the École des Beaux-Arts and later became a member of the Sociéte des Artistes Français. The artist died January 6, 1951 in Paris (France) The lamp is in great vintage condition with a small repair to one of the rear finials. It has been rewired with a black fabric twisted cord and an elegant on/off switch. It has an original French B22 bayonet socket.
