Meydam started his career as a glass artist and designer as an assistant in the advertising department of the Glasfabriek in Leerdam in 1935. From 1939 to 1943 he attended an evening course at the Art Industrial Education in Utrecht. He then became a student of glass decoration at Glasschool Leerdam, where he remained as a teacher until 1947. Meydam became head of the design department in Leerdam in 1949, where he designed utilitarian objects as well as decorative objects and unique items. Meydam often worked together with the master glassblowers of the Leerdam Glasfabriek, resulting in designs that show Meydam's knowledge of technique and material.
