SALON COLLECTION - LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL 2011
Award-winning British designer Lee Broom presents his fifth collection at the London Design Festival, a dramatic debut upholstery collection entitled 'Salon'.
Inspired by the curved lines of 1930s upholstery, with a touch of fashion fetishism, the new collection features soft silhouettes contrasted and accented by modern stud detailing. True to Broom's signature style and ethos, the elegant collection has been created using traditional British craftsmanship.
More about Lee Broom - a personality in fashion interior design:
When it comes to cutting-edge British creatives, Lee Broom's name appears in neon lights alongside the likes of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano. He has changed design rules, redefined classic aesthetics and brought the rather forgotten traditions of some British crafts back into fashion.
"I studied fashion at London Central St Martin's," he reveals. "This institution encourages the imagination of all students and encourages them to experiment, which I have carried on into my career as a designer. I also believe that this invaluable education has allowed me to focus on other forms of design and move away from fashion to products and interiors."
"I guess I'm one of those designers who likes to bring a lot of British energy into their designs. I love working with British craftsmen, I love the traditions of this country and I also love the modernity of London, and that informs my thought process as a designer." His hand-cut crystal and brass masterpiece, the Crystal Bulb, achieved cult status among design aficionados after its launch in 2012, firmly establishing him as the pin-up boy of British manufacturing. With more than 75 furniture and lighting products sold in over 120 stores in 40 countries and 24 awards (including the career-defining British Designer of the Year Award in 2012), he received the Queen's Award for Enterprise - the UK's highest accolade for business success - in 2015, the accolade was well deserved.
