About the artist Theo Koster:
In his youth, Theo Koster was stimulated by his parents in his artistic development. Already at the age of 14 he follows a valuable course from the American Institute Famous Artist School.
After his education at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and the Academy for the Visual Arts in Arnhem, he lived for a while in an almost deserted mountain village in the French Ardèche. This is where his love for nature and the landscape originated as the main inspiration for his work.
After an exhibition in New Delhi in 2010, Theo Koster was so captivated by Indian culture that he moved into his own living and working space, where he made large screen prints and mixed media paintings. Furthermore, the artist participates in various projects in Brazil, Poland and Bulgaria. In this way, Theo Koster has always sought out creative exchanges without being part of a collective.
Theo Koster grows up in a large religious family. Symbols from his youth can be found in many of his works. As he develops as a person and as an artist, these graphic symbols disappear from his paintings. This results in dreamy abstracted landscapes that elaborate on painting from the Romantic era and The Sublime. The artist's statement: "art must communicate and have something to say, but above all be beautiful" illustrates this.
Balance and harmony are important features of Theo Koster's work. The starting point for this is the horizon, which forms the starting point for every new work. It is then up to the viewer to give his own poetic interpretation.
Theo Koster's oeuvre consists of (mixed media) paintings, serigraphs and collages.
