Rare Large Uchiwa floor lamp designed by Ingo Maurer for M Design , Germany 1977 A breathtaking design which is handmade from bamboo, rice paper and metal. The beautiful and huge floor lamp edition of the iconic Uchiwa series is a true collectors item and statement piece in any interior. The rice paper is gracefully enhanced with concealed metal wires due to its large size. The lamp leans to the wall and can be connected to the wall with two ropes to enhance stability. On the backside there are three light sockets illuminating the rice paper fan. Once turned on, the shade creates an enchanting silhouette when illuminated. Light seeps gracefully through the rice paper, casting soft, diffused radiance, while the bamboo elements cast intriguing shadows, thus creating an immersive lighting experience. Either turned on or off, this lamp will elevate any space with its striking appearance. Due to the usage of these delicate materials, many of these light sculptures have been damaged or lost over the years. Therefore the ones remaining have become a unique find. This particular Lamp is very good conditions with only one minor crack in the bottom of the fan, which is hardly visible, and invisible when turned on. The height of the lamp is adjustable with the three small ropes, with which you can also straighten the lamps position when needed. These ropes are never shortened and can have a height of 100cm when desired. Maurer’s Uchiwa floor lamp transcends mere functionality; it stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of Japanese heritage and German design ingenuity, offering any interior space a welcoming, ambient radiance and an unmistakable mid-century appeal.
