Product description
Beautiful Bird Chair designed by Harry Bertoia for Knoll International.
Design year 1952.
The large seat resembles a bird spreading its wings. Thanks to its shape, the chair invites you to sink into it. The frame of the chair is made of welded steel and is then powder coated white.
“The Bird Chair is an astonishing study in space, form and function by one of the most important designers of the last century. Like Saarinen and Mies, Bertoia found sublime grace in an industrial material and elevated it beyond its normal usefulness into a work of art. Harry Bertoia 's wire chairs are among the most recognized achievements of mid-century modern and are a proud part of the Knoll heritage.”
Dimensions
Depth / Length: 89cm
Width 98cm
Height: 101cm
Seat height: 38cm
This Bird Chair has recently been restored. Welded joints were broken in a number of places. The frame has been sandblasted, the connections have been re-welded and then the chair has been powder-coated again. The cover of the chair is in used condition and shows signs of wear and light discolouration here and there. For example, at the railings. I have tried to capture this well in the images.
