Knoll, together with Vitra, probably shares the number 1 position when it comes to marketing legendary design icons. Think of the Barcelona Chair by Mies van der Rohe and the Tulip table by Eero Saarinen. Knoll was founded in New York in 1938 by the German Hans Knoll who took over a furniture store from his father. In 1955 Hans Knoll dies in a car accident in Cuba and his wife Florence Knoll, who had been working in the company for some time, takes over the management. Florence is also a designer and trained, among others, by Marcel Breuer, from whom Knoll later received the Wassily Chair in the collection. You can safely be impressed by the team of top designers they managed to bind to Knoll, such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Harry Bertoia and Eero Saarinen. Known for its modern vision, Knoll is certainly one of the most popular design brands today.
