Kastholm was a trained blacksmith, but quickly turned to furniture design, which he learned under Finn Juhl. After training as a carpenter in Copenhagen, Preben Fabricius also studied interior design under Finn Juhl. He founded a joint studio with Preben Fabricius in 1961. Both are in the tradition of functional-aesthetic Scandinavian design, but were also influenced by the Bauhaus.
The armchair still has the original leather, but has some unobtrusive signs of wear over time. A black stripe can be seen on the back of the backrest and there are slight scratches and abrasions on the armrests and the frame.
