Product description
Kees te Kolsté - Tibet - acrylic over oil on canvas - 70 x 50 cm - 2003. In a simple wooden frame. Straight from the artist's studio.
Kees te Kolsté (1961 Muiderberg) lives in Zaandam and is a house painter by profession. Kees grew up among artists and attended the painting school in Zwolle. For someone without an academic education, he has built up an extensive oeuvre that shows many facets. Several hundred works on canvas and an almost unmanageable number of works on paper. Te Kolsté's works can be seen as a kind of painted diary. The first chapter begins with the surreal images of early childhood. Later on, traces of processing by Picasso and the Cubists can be recognized up to the current images, in which references to the Abstract Expressionists of North America cannot be overlooked. Te Kolsté eventually found a personal style. For Kees, painting is just like meditating. How the viewer receives it is less important to him than whether he is satisfied with the end result. And what that result will be is not predetermined. His work is undeniably dynamic. His oeuvre can be characterized as such by its colorful spontaneity and figurative mobility. Te Kolsté's abstract work gives the viewer the space to interpret the feelings and desires that the work evokes as they see fit. Nothing is imposed. What Te Kolsté is all about is that both the artist and the viewer engage with the work of art with the same imagination and intensity.
