Product description
Over four decades ago, the IJmuider Kring was founded, an artists' collective that resisted the dominant influence of gallery owners and public opinion. Based in an abandoned factory in the port of IJmuiden, they created art in almost total isolation. Jon Marten, one of the founding members of this group, is known for his paintings influenced by the impressions of his many travels.
Around 1987, shortly after the IJmuider Kring disbanded, Jon Marten was commissioned to create this triptych. The triptych’s colorful compositions are directly inspired by the “slides†of images stored in his mind, a result of his countless travels and encounters. Marten’s ability to seamlessly weave past and present into his art, combined with his characteristically understated forms and unexpected color choices, makes this work a masterful representation of his rich and eventful life.
In 2023, Jon Marten celebrated his 89th birthday, still a living reminder of the influential IJmuiden Circle and a testament to the timeless power of art.
