Product description
“When I saw pétanque players measuring the distance between the steel balls (constellation or planets) and the small wooden ball called a cochonnet (the star or a point in space), I always thought that they were doing astronomy… on Earth. The word “popular” was added naturally when I thought of Camille Flammarion.” Jean-Michel Alberola Jean-Michel Alberola (Saïda French-Algeria, 1953) is a French artist, painter, sculptor, filmmaker and writer. Since 1991, he has been affiliated with the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris. He signs his work with 'Actéon dixit' (Actéon has said), 'Actéon fecit' (Actéon has made), 'Actéon invenit' (Actéon has found) or 'Actéon pinxit' (Actéon has painted), a reference to Actaeon, a hunter from Boeotia, known from Greek mythology. His work was first exhibited in 1982 at the ARC (Animation, Recherche, Confrontation), the contemporary art department of the musée d'art moderne de la ville de Paris (Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris). In 1999 he designed a large skylight with zenith for the Stadsschouwburg in Kortrijk. Based on an idea by Jean-Michel Alberola in collaboration with Michel Cassé two pétanque courts and several boules sets, designed by the artist Jean-Michel Alberola, are available to visitors to the exhibition in the garden of the Fondation Cartier on September 20 and 21, 2014.
