Product description
Jean-Luc Bertel
Surreal sculptures in wrought iron sometimes combined with glass.
This is Good move. The unique figure was created between hammer, fire and anvil. The 2 cm thick glass (albertini) was mass colored with natural oxides. The hand-cut blocks were glued together with black silicone.
Forging is a form of sculpting. The graceful legs that carry the eye attest to this.
The materials and technique used by the artist blend completely into the result. All the sculptures have a high cuddliness factor, but are so layered that the viewer almost immediately starts looking for the message and the relationship the viewer has with them....
Unique signed work from 2024.
JLB received musical training at the Conservatory of Ghent after which he pursued a career as a horn player, conductor, composer and teacher. At the same time, his interest as a self-taught musician went to artisanal forging, first to restore or manufacture all kinds of ironwork in the old way. Later he discovered the possibilities of creating sculptures. After a meeting and short internship with Martin Granel, he discovered the combination of glass with iron. JLB exhibits regularly at the Garemyn Hall in Bruges. His work has also been shown at the Vlask gallery in Ghent.
