Product description
Hand-signed work in mixed media. Unique copy in an edition of 100, numbered 12/100.
Jarik Jongman (Amsterdam, 1962), former assistant to Anselm Kiefer, uses both his own photographs and anonymous photographs found at flea markets, in books, magazines and on the Internet as starting points for his work.
He studied in Arnhem and has exhibited widely in London, Berlin, New York, Amsterdam and at the 53rd (2009) and 54th (2011) Venice Biennale during side events.
In 2017, he won the Luxembourg Art Prize.
In 2012, he was shortlisted for the John Moores Prize and exhibited at the Liverpool Biennale.
In 2010, he won joint first prize for best artist at the UK National Open Art Competition, judged by Gavin Turk.
His work over the years has explored ideas of impermanence, ontology, religion and history.
Many of these works involve architecture in one form or another: motel rooms,
waiting rooms, dilapidated buildings, usually devoid of human presence, that
often evoke feelings of nostalgia and contemplation, sometimes with reference to the miraculous or supernatural.
