Jan Te Wierik was born in 1954 in Hengelo in Overijssel. His parental family moved to Haaksbergen because of his father's work. Te Wierik was self-taught as an artist. He was both a sculptor and a painter. Due to his health, he devoted himself more and more to painting. In the last years of his life, Te Wierik lived and worked in Racks in Gelderland. His work has been exhibited in and outside the Netherlands, including in Germany and the United States. Te Wierik was also an illustrator, musician, poet and writer. His work is often compared to artists such as Herman Brood, Karel Appel, Lucebert and Corneille.
He died in August 2002 in Haaksbergen at the age of 48
