Product description
Jan Sluijters was born in Den Bosch in 1881. He was the son of Gijsbertus Antonius Sluijters. Jan Sluijters himself had three children named Jan Sluijters (jr.), Lous Sluijters and Eliza Sluijters together with MF van Cooten. His son-in-law was Jacob Kuijper and Kuno Brinks. His paintings mainly consist of colorful nude studies, portraits, landscapes and still lifes. Jan Sluijters distinguishes himself, together with Piet Mondriaan and Leo Gestel, as one of the true pioneers of Dutch modern art. In his early years, Sluijters experimented with many different styles. After his visits to Paris, his style became more expressive and belonged more to Cubism and Futurism. A particularly important part of his oeuvre are his luministic landscapes from his early period. After his expressionist period in the village of Staphorst in 1916, Sluijters started painting realistic portraits and nudes. In the Netherlands, a number of streets are named after him, including a street near the streets named after 19th and 20th century Dutch painters in Overtoomse Veld-Noord, Amsterdam. Jan Sluijters eventually died in 1957 in Amsterdam. The work is still in good condition, the frame has some signs of wear. The dimensions are 32 x 28

Frame has some damage.
