Jan Sleeboom
Delfzijl 06-10-1917 – Tilburg 22-09-1963
Jan Sleeboom was a visual artist and poet. His strongest work is located in Delfzijl, Luxembourg and the Eiffel. Also Zeeland, Brittany and Schiermonnikoog. He also worked in Nijmegen and the surrounding landscape. Fixed subjects are fishermen, boats, the Delta Works, street scenes, houses and buildings. His early work showed quite a lot of influence from Chris le Roy but later he found his own form.
He overcame in and through his work the terror that would haunt him all his life and that, strong mind in a disease-ridden body, drove him on in a frenzied pursuit of quantity. His house was full of paintings. When he sold he missed work and when he didn't sell it annoyed him.
