Product description
Artwork by Jan Rutten from the 1970s.
Jan Rutten (04-03-1945, Nijmegen).
Jan Rutten, born in Nijmegen (1945) has been active as a professional visual artist since 1970. Starting with wood sculptures, after 10 years he applied himself more and more to making bronze sculptures. He has developed his own style. A style in which on the one hand the human being is central and on the other hand the form.
With the figurative human figures he is mainly concerned with movement. Human figures that portray something. Something lovely and/or moving. Or cheerful, like clowns, dancers, jazz musicians, who by their posture and movement entertain people. In his abstract work, his main concern is the form. The tension of the forms to each other and to the environment.
In addition to wood and bronze, he has been active as a matter painter since 1990. 'Matter painting' means not only working with paint but also using other materials such as sand, gravel, plaster, cardboard, etc. Here prehistory, with its traces left behind, signs, petroglyphs and ruins, are his source of inspiration. The 'mystery' of human presence on this planet is the starting point. In this form, he works from his intuition. Only during the working process does the final image emerge, which, through the treatment of materials, conveys the intended mystical feeling.
