Beautiful large screen print 'Firework disaster' by Jan Cremer.

About himself:
Painter-writer Jan Cremer was born in Enschede in 1940. As a visual artist, he has specialized in graphic techniques from the start of his training at the various art academies he attended.
In 1957 he painted the first of a series of canvases that would become known as Peinture Barbarisme. In 1958 he had his first one-man exhibition at Galerie de Posthoorn in The Hague and joined the Posthoorn group. A year later he exhibited in the Haags Gemeentemuseum and in 1960 in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
Dozens of exhibitions will follow at home and abroad. With a grant from the French government, he left for Paris in 1959, where he ended up in the Rue Santeuil, the famous hide warehouse with the studios of Bogart, Appel and Corneille, among others.
From 1961 to 1963, Jan Cremer lived and worked on the Spanish island of Ibiza and was part of the Grupo Ibiza with KF Dahmen and Erwin Bechtold, among others.

Course:
Jan Cremer trained at the Academy of Visual Art in Arnhem.
He lives and works in Amsterdam.
Even at a young age, Jan Cremer was an extremely original and obsessed artist, who would do anything to be able to work. At his first one-man exhibition at Galerie De Posthoorn in The Hague in 1958, the critics - barely recovered from the riots surrounding CoBrA - spoke of a 'ferocious animal'. His participation in the Hague Salon (1958) became a scandal. A year later he exhibited in the Haags Gemeentemuseum and in 1960 in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. In the meantime, Cremer worked on his first book Ik Jan Cremer, which was published in the Netherlands in 1964 and has since been published in millions of copies in many languages. In the same period, more than a hundred exhibitions of his visual art will follow in national and international museums and galleries. With the first proceeds from his book, Jan Cremer leaves for America at the end of 1964.
In New York he starts painting Dutch landscapes. This very colorful and above all tightly composed 'Dutch Realisme', with cows, farmers' wives and tulip fields, represents a break with the strongly abstract expressionist work from the years before. The theme of Dutch landscapes recurs throughout Cremer's complete oeuvre, but the steppes, deserts and mountain ranges of Siberia and Mongolia, regions he frequently travels, are also a permanent source of inspiration.
In between, he stays for a shorter or longer period of time in Berlin, London or Amsterdam where he mainly makes lithographs. In 1972 Cremer made his first film documentary 'The Long White Trail', about his expedition with the Inuit in Northwest Greenland. He traveled extensively around the world as a reporter. Cremer knows how to combine his work with his love of traveling and wandering. He is on the road six months a year, the other months he divides his time between painting and writing, preferably in the south of France or Switzerland. Cremer lives and works - when he is not traveling - in New York and Paris.
