Jaap Ravelli (1916-2011)
Jaap Ravelli was born in 1916 in Princenhage (NL).
He studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague.
In 1947 he founded Potterie Ravelli in Valkenburg (ZH).
In the early years, the pottery made simple consumer goods such as vases and crockery.
In the fifties the black and white plastics with a mostly African theme and in the sixties the well-known birch bark vases and pots. In recent years, the factory produced vases and pots in a modern orange color, among others.
After the Potterie closed in 1977, Jaap Ravelli continued to make unique pieces, which he fired in a small kiln.
Jaap Ravelli passed away on April 1, 2011.
