( Afternoon ) - Japan – 1970s
This lovely portrait comes from a set of limited edition of 480 (unnumbered) woodblock prints. carved and printed in a collaboration of The Kato print studio and the Adachi Publisher Institute of printmaking, for the Mainichi Shinbun (The Daily News). Published around 1970.
Born on June 8, 1901 (Meiji 34) in Kurofune-cho, Asakusa-ku, Tokyo (present-day Kotobuki, Taito-ku, Tokyo)
After graduating from elementary school in 1914, moved to Kyoto. Do not enter as a disciple in the order of the design artist, Japanese painter, and print designer. Became a disciple of kikuchi keigetsu, a Japanese painter
Returned to Tokyo in 1919. Adopted by Hakubunkan as an illustration artist who publishes a magazine called "Kodan Magazine". Debuted in 1920 with illustrations for the March issue of "Kodan Magazine, and after that he continues to draw illustrations centered on "Kodan Magazine" and "Bungei Club" issued by the company.
Around this time, he became a disciple of Ito Shinsui.
In 1961, received the Medal with Purple Ribbon.
