Ien van Laanen is a freelance illustrator and designer. She makes illustrations, designs covers, posters, corporate identities and promotional materials and creates short animations for the web. She works for publishing houses and all kinds of organizations and institutions, for newspapers and magazines such as de Volkskrant, Vrij Nederland, VPRO-gids and HP de Tijd. She illustrated a number of successful children's books (see below under Harry Potter) and gives seminars and lessons at the Hogeschool v.d. Kunsten in Utrecht. She contributed to the illustration curriculum of this college.
