Rare Walter Antonis Easy lounge chair in “all-black” for ’t I-form 1970s
Based on the SZ range of lounge easy chairs this particular variant in “all-black” black chrome was believed to have been produced for just one year around 1970. This makes this chair particularly sought after by collectors of Dutch Mid Century minimalist design. The chair is presented in very good vintage condition. As you would expect there are some marks and light scratches in the seat (as shown) but nothing that detracts from the presentation of the object.

Designer Walter Antonis (1943) made his name in industrial design and then moved into furniture design in the 60’s most notably working for Dutch design houses ‘t Spectrum and Arspect. Renowned for his seating and wooden slated benches his work was characterised by the use of simple geometric modernist forms using both wood and steel in conjunction with fabric and leather. His designs were a perfect fit with Spectrum, who as a subsidiary of De Ploeg Textiles, moved into the domestic industrial arts sector after the war. Championed by De Ploeg’s enigmatic director Piet Blijenburg, Spectrum aligned itself with the Goed Wonen (Good Living) movement in the Netherlands and produced many high end designs throughout the 60’s and 70’s that are now sought after by collectors.Minor scrachtes on seating, non-disturbing.
