Product description
Hungarian De!Forma Design Group /Monika Bedécs /Zsolnay postmodern box with lid 1997--De!Forma is a group of ceramic and decorative artists founded in 1993. Its members are experienced designers and artist-craftsmen with many years, even decades of experience, who are primarily determined to renew the form of porcelain utility objects. DeFORMA: De forma! "The name was given by one of the founders, Sándor Dobány. The artists involved had previously known each other only superficially or not at all. Hungarian and foreign artists were invited to the symposia. The selection of themes was followed by preparation and planning, and a few weeks of reflection, discussion and interaction shaped their art into a collective. The high quality raw materials for their work were provided by the Herendi Porcelain Manufactory and the Zsolnay Porcelain Manufactory in Pécs. Their objects - however individual, typical of their creator and unmistakable - are unified in their sophistication, and their creations have become increasingly 'deformed' year after year. Some of the founders have left in the meantime, but in the end eight of them stayed together. Instead of the traditional, familiar, often boring vessel forms, they created a new, idiosyncratic and eloquent world of objects, creating a new degree of freedom of creation in contemporary porcelain art, and with this attitude they certainly marked a new path for the younger generation of ceramists. After all, artistic freedom in this field can only be enjoyed by those who cultivate their profession and vocation at a professional level; the materials and technology of porcelain work demand strict consistency, discipline, precision and purity. Their art is not really classifiable, but for those who think in categories, briefly: the DeForma Art Group is an internationally recognised and award-winning national representative of postmodern design.
