Huibert van Dorp initially chose the profession of graphic designer at the art academy. However, during his training he discovered that he preferred a 'freer' form of expression. After the academy, he chose to work as a free visual artist. Graphic forms have always played an important role in Van Dorp's work; illustrative elements such as appliances, tables and strange creatures have the appearance of cartoon characters. In his work, animals and people go on a journey of discovery, sometimes they meet each other and become connected, other times they turn away from each other and each tell their own story. Van Dorps' works demonstrate great originality. The artist's handwriting is unmistakable in every technique he uses. A certain anarchy reigns not only in his oil paintings, watercolors and screen prints, but also in countless objects constructed and painted by himself. Existing laws are ignored and even the law of gravity is violated. The spaces are dream spaces. The apparently slow-moving figures float in a cosmos where the mood is determined by a range of bright colors.
