At the age of 14 he exhibited with the artists' association “Lijn en Kleur” from Hillegom, eight of his gouaches were shown. From 1965 to 1967, Klinkhamer was taught by the painter Kees Heemskerk Sr., a landscape and portrait painter from Hillegom, and he produced many still lifes and portraits. At the same time he studied drawing and painting at F.A.S. in Amstelveen. During this period he often collaborated with Kees Heemskerk Sr. and several other artists. From 1968 to 1969 Henk had all kinds of jobs to keep his head above water and to buy materials to continue working.
His studio was located in a building on the Goudhanesteeg in Hillegom, where the painter Koos van de Meer came to work with him in 1970. Later, the painter T. van de Linden settled in the studio for a short period. Klinkhamer also met his wife Henny in that studio. In 1971 Klinkhamer and his wife moved to a gypsy caravan on the Turfspoor in Lisserbroek. During that time Klinkhamer made many colorful pen drawings. Then, in 1972, he moved to Noordwijkerhout and started living in rooms. This is because the previous addresses were so humid that his works were badly affected. Klinkhamer decided not to exhibit for the time being, he was developing his own style. Returning to Hillegom in 1977, Klinkhamer destroyed most of his works in a catastrophic tantrum. In 1978 and 1979 he worked hard on a new series of drawings and paintings, only to destroy it all again in 1980. In 1981 Klinkhamer moved again to Hillegom and formed a family with a son and a daughter. Until 1985, Klinkhamer was again busy developing a new style and building up an art stock to exhibit. Art group Sybarit was founded in 1986 by artists Johannes Adrianus Smit (JAS), Klinkhamer and Van Vliet.
