Product description
Colorful screen print by the Dutch artist Helmuth van Galen (Haarlem 1955) in very good condition.
The work is signed and numbered.
Helmuth van Galen's screen prints and paintings can best be described as abstract interiors. The colored vertical bands, actually panels, create complex vistas and suggest more underlying spaces. Not actual rooms, but rather imaginary divisions of space. The power of the suggestion maybe, but you actually feel the depth.
Interior Space (1994–2001)
The interior space in the paintings is a (re)construction of derived perception and memory. Not the spying interior, it's about the space itself. The gaze traverses the 'spaces' in search of space and light. The color areas are alternately flat and closed or 'openwork'.
Initially still to be seen as a referable space with 'recognizable' elements. Gradually, the unequivocal references to recognizable elements (floor, structure, walls, light source, attributes, etc.) are 'dissolved'. The space arises more from the paint and its treatment. All the space that is there is created by sliding layers: by surface division, color scheme, tone and color matching.
You can view the work in advance in the treasury of gallery Rotor in Gorinchem or pick it up after purchase. The work can also be sent by registered mail.
