Welcome! You have just looked at a beautiful unique oil painting made and signed by Harry Maas displaying a sportive woman in the sixties. Supposedly oil but it can also be gouache. Difficult to record on photo due to the glass. The painting was framed and purchased at the Toledo European Fine Arts gallery Bunnik, the Netherlands. Unfortunately, the original purchase ticket got lost. This painting has its original frame with glass and it is in a mint VINTAGE condition. One very small fragment at the frame. Short Bio Harry Maas - 1906-1982 – Neederweert, son of Herman H.J. Maas, a well-known controversial journalist and writer. Harry grew up in Roermond and Nijmegen, where he got drawing lessons from M.G. Hölscher and Anton Kloosterhuis. In the thirties Harry Maas became known as a craftsman and painter of portraits and women and also produced linocuts and etches. His preferred model was Jeanne van den Bogaard. He was a member of the various Kunstkringen such as: `In Consten Een`, de Zuid-Nederlandsche Onafhankelijken, De Kempen, De Bredasche, De Eindhovensche Schetsclub, De Association of Visual Artists` and Harry exhibited in 1935 in the old city hall. In 1937 Harry exhibited in the Kunstzaal Verheugen and in 1940 as a member of the Breda Kunstkring. Furthermore, he exposed his work at the national exhibitions in Onze kunst van heden, Amsterdam in 1939 and in Kunst in Vrijheid, Amsterdam 1945. After WO II he participated as a member of the Kunstkring De Kempen and showed his work at the Visual Art Exhibitions. Hereafter he stopped exhibiting since he lost one eye at a bombing raid in 1942. Late sixties, he continued drawing with Houtman, Louwers, Vermeeren and Van der Voort. In 1974 he married artist Netty Michels - 1919-1995. Harry passed away June 4, 1982. His female paintings, dressed - half-dressed or nude were a theme through his artistic work. Total Size: H 60 X L 33,5 cm X W 3 cm Size: H 23.62 X L 13.19 cm X W 1.18 inches Total Weight: 1850 grams.
