The Norwegian designer and architect developed this chair in 1957 as part of a student project at the National College of Art & Design Oslo. The seat shell consists exclusively of vertically and horizontally arranged plywood struts. The design was completely revolutionary in terms of form and construction.
The Scandia Chair received many international awards, including the gold medal at the International Crafts Fair in Munich in 1967. Hans Brattrud was awarded the Royal Norwegian Medal of Merit in gold for his life's work in 2008.
