Dimensions: 59cm high x 80cm wide Date: 1967 Gerrit de Morée (Den Bosch, January 28, 1909 - Breda, October 13, 1981) was a Dutch visual artist. He was co-founder of the Bredasche Kunstkring and the Vrije School voor Beeldende Kunsten in Breda. Biography De Morée was taught at the Katholieke Leergangen in Tilburg by Jan van Delft, at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in Den Bosch and at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in the Montparnasse district of Paris. He has been active in a variety of disciplines, producing drawings, paintings, sculptures and glass mosaics, among others. He has also illustrated a large number of books, signed with GJL de Morée van Lierde. He signed other works with a "G" over an "M". He also designed the Way of the Cross. Fourteen stations are located in the Gorcum Martyrs' Church in the village of Stampersgat, West Brabant. In 1933, together with Dio Rovers, Paul Windhausen and Jan Strube, he founded the Bredasche Kunstkring to promote artistic life in Breda. Just after the Second World War, in 1947, he founded the Vrije School voor Beeldende Kunsten (later St. Joost Academy) with Rovers and Niel Steenbergen. De Morée's students included Ben Brekelmans, Clemens van Lamsweerde, Jan Willemen and Pierre van Iersel. He died in 1981 at the age of 72.
