Galvanitas' S16 is the school chair of the 1960s. It was in just about every school in the Netherlands.
And it sat remarkably well. Because of its minimalist design and industrial look, the chair is popular.
Galvanitas' S16 is definitely a classic and fits perfectly into current interior design trends.
A special and very fine sitting design chair. The chair was designed and produced by Galvanitas in Oosterhout in the late 1950s and early 1960s. They opted for a design with the so typical compass legs. Instead of the usual tubular construction, the designer chose a frame of pressed sheet steel. A very solid and at the same time revolutionary design for the time. Wim Rietveld, one of the pioneers of industrial design in the Netherlands, described the furniture as functional: "well formed, sturdy, usable and inexpensive.
Frame is made of folded sheet steel. Seat and back are made of synthetic resin playwood wood. The chair has a welded frame.
Seat and back are mounted with classic bolt connection.
