Product description
Frans Minnaert oil on canvas. 1966. This work is from his Yugoslavia period.
Frans Minnaert was born on December 4, 1929 in Idegem , near Geraardsbergen. As an artist he took classes at the Stedelijke Academie of Aalst and at the Académie Royale des Beaux Arts of Brussels.
Eager to learn and always looking for new experiences, Frans Minnaert undertook study trips during the 1960s and 1970s to Yugoslavia, South Africa and Japan, where he also exhibited repeatedly.
He was founder-teacher and director (1970-1995) of the Academy of Visual Arts of Community Education in Anderlecht. During his administration, the academy grew into a school with fame beyond its borders.
In the seventies Minnaert was laureate of the Prize for Drawing of Kortenberg, of the Young Artists Prize at the International Art Fair of Basel(Switzerland) and of the Graphic Art Prize of Diano Marina(Italy). In 1974 he was selected for the Venice Biennale with the polyptych "Genesis".
Frans Minnaert's life as an artist was a constant being on the road, a search for his own truth. The landscapes in which he lived and the people he met were his familiar themes. Although his method of interpretation evolved, one notices that his final works still connect to and build upon his earlier oeuvre. Until the end of his life, Frans Minnaert painted in a way that was inalienably his own and recognizable. Frans Minnaert's oeuvre can be found in numerous museums and collections, nationally and internationally.
Frans Minnaert passed away on January 18, 2011.
The work dates from 1966 and thus has the natural patina
