Beginning in 1950, Finland established itself as a driving force for design innovation. During the famous and highly influential Milan Triennials in the 1950s and 1960s, the "Finnish Association of Crafts and Design" created the Finnish section. This exhibition and the prizes won additionally contributed to the prominence of Finnish design, especially of Wirkkala, Sarpaneva and Franck - all of whom studied at the association.
