Product description
Oil on canvas -dimensions-35×27cm-framed-framed... Born in 1917, Maurice Faustino-Lafetat spent eight years of his youth living with his parents in the impasse Vandal in Paris's fourteenth arrondissement, where he frequented the gypsies camped in a nearby wasteland he called "ma zone" (Ma zone: la rue Vandal, the title of a painting depicting the camp, painted around 1945)2. As Jean-Louis Augé observes, Faustino Lafetat was already "paying close attention to the construction of his paintings, to their rigorous composition "3, before his evolution "towards clarity, the translation of a golden light that bathes many of his canvases". His earliest works, "still imbued with a rigorous training and the despair of youth" - it was probably in the gypsy camp that he earned the middle name of Mario, which he would gladly continue to call himself - thus precede the structured period that would later, in the 1970s, define him as a post-Cubist. Maurice Faustino-Lafetat graduated from the École du Louvre in 1945, then from the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in 1950. On September 3, 1956, he married Suzanne Boudon; their daughter Agnès was born in 19642. Although the artist, who lives and works at 1 avenue Suzanne in Lagny-sur-Marne4 , does not date his paintings, the Musée Goya2 , by indicating his main vacation destinations, enables us to situate some of them in time: Italy (1954), the Dunkirk area (notably Gravelines and Grand-Fort-Philippe (circa 1955), Auvergne (1956), Le Havre (with his friend Franck Innocent) and Spain (notably Toledo) in 1959, Loir-et-Cher (notably Mesland, again with Franck Innocent) and Auvergne in 1960, Brittany (notably Rothéneuf), Tyrol and Austria in 1960, Provence in 1967, the Cote d'Azur (notably Nice around 1973), Venice and Egypt (around 1980), New York (around 1984).
