Eugène Brands studied from 1927-1931 at the Handelsschool and then from 1931-1934 at the Kunstnijverheidsschool, both in Amsterdam.
Eugène Brands made surreal assemblages and abstract drawings during the Second World War. After the war , Eugene Brands was associated with the CoBrA group. If you compare Eugène Brands' work with other CoBrA members, his work is much more dreamy and poetic than that of other members. Brands was inspired by children's drawings and primitive art. These motifs are clearly reflected in his work.
