Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007) was an influential Italian architect and designer, renowned for his contributions to the Memphis Design Movement in the 1980s. Born in Innsbruck, Austria, he studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Turin. After working for various firms in Milan, Sottsass developed a strong interest in using bold colors and geometric shapes in design. In 1981, he founded the Memphis group, a collective of designers that challenged the minimalist aesthetic prevalent at the time. Sottsass's designs, characterized by vibrant colors and geometric forms, had a significant impact on the design world and continue to influence contemporary design. The Memphis movement, spearheaded by Sottsass, revolutionized the design landscape with its unconventional and playful approach. Although Sottsass passed away in 2007, his legacy endures through the lasting popularity of his designs and the Memphis movement he pioneered.
