About the artist:
Erwin de Vries (Paramaribo 1929 – Paramaribo 2018) is a passionate artist. Inspired by eroticism and female beauty, he created powerful and colorful compositions, which also reflect his multicultural background. With powerful brushstrokes he captivated feminine curves, sensuality and life energy. He worked realistically and abstractly.
Erwin de vries had solo exhibitions at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and in 2009 a solo exhibition at the Kunsthal in Rotterdam.
An important milestone in his career was the creation of the Slavery Monument, placed in the Oosterpark in Amsterdam, unveiled by Queen Beatrix on July 1, 2002.
