Elliots of Newbury was a renowned furniture manufacturer based in Newbury, Berkshire, England. The company was especially active in the ''50s and '60s and was known for its high-quality production of designer furniture, especially chairs and tables.
Elliots of Newbury was founded in 1885 and became a well-known name in the British furniture industry. They were known for their craftsmanship and innovative designs, which often had modernist influences.
One of the most famous designers who worked with Elliots of Newbury was British designer Lucian Ercolani, known for the Ercol brand. Elliots of Newbury also produced many of the designs of Robin Day, an influential British designer who was important in the development of modernist furniture in the United Kingdom.
Although Elliots of Newbury is no longer in business, their furniture pieces remain sought after by collectors and vintage design enthusiasts. Their contribution to British furniture history continues to be recognized and appreciated.
This specimen is a sideboard / dresser in a playful design with a distinctive front and handsome handles. The layout is also uncommon with 6 (!) drawers.
