Elliots of Newbury was a renowned furniture manufacturer based in Newbury, Berkshire, England. The company was especially active in the ''50s and '60s and was known for its high-quality production of designer furniture, especially chairs and tables.
Elliots of Newbury was founded in 1885 and became a well-known name in the British furniture industry. They were known for their craftsmanship and innovative designs, which often had modernist influences.
One of the most famous designers who worked with Elliots of Newbury was British designer Lucian Ercolani, known for the Ercol brand. Elliots of Newbury also produced many of the designs of Robin Day, an influential British designer who was important in the development of modernist furniture in the United Kingdom.
Although Elliots of Newbury is no longer in business, their furniture pieces remain sought after by collectors and vintage design enthusiasts. Their contribution to British furniture history continues to be recognized and appreciated.
This piece is from a very exclusive series which came out in the early 1960s.
There are style elements strongly reminiscent of the "Brazilia" Series of the American manufacturer Broyhill, this line was first shown at the World's Fair in 1962.
In particular, the handle in its distinctive style is and epitome of mid century design.
The cabinet has 2 sliding doors with behind them a large storage space with shelves, in the middle of the cabinet is 3 beautifully finished drawers placed with a beautiful ribbed exterior.
As if it were a frame, the cabinet both left and right in a darker wood which is also beautiful and typical of the time is designed.
Finally, the cabinet stands on a beautiful base with conical wooden legs.
The condition is very neat, in our restoration workshop this cabinet has recently been checked and restored where needed with respect for the authenticity.
This makes it a very neat and also immediately usable, very exclusive cabinet.
