Product description
This "iconic chair" (model 670) by "Ray and Charles Eames for Herman Miller", is a special "Black Edition" from the early 80'. It is characterized, because the edges are not colored (of the 5-layer plywood), creating a beautiful contrast with the "light brown" of the 5-layer plywood against the "black" of the leather and veneer!
-Manufactured in:
-Rio-Palisander rosewood veneer,-Steel,-Sturdy black leather and of course the fireproof filling of the cushions (foam and fibrefill) that belongs to this 3rd generation production.
-Marked with the "Herman Miller" sticker at the bottom of the seat,
-On the inside of the 3 wooden parts" with permanent marker written all the info of the chair.
This is always done as a precaution, by the relevant artisan in the factory, so that nothing gets lost or accidentally changed, as the shells are selected with great care from the same piece of wood.
-
There are NO parts missing and NO parts have been replaced over the past (40?) years that this chair is old, both the leather, buttons, shockmounts, screws etc.. Everything about this chair is still completely original and authentic and in very good condition, especially considering its age!
-Naturally there is a scratch and dent here and there in the leather, also some craculee on ends of the armrests and some chips from the wood (see photos)
-Only the zipper of the seat cushion is loose in 2 places (see pictures with white arrows), this is really not noticeable at all and I and almost always occurs with vintage Herman Miller USA version (I myself have chosen to leave it as it is and keep it in original condition) but this one is so easy and cheap to replace, that this need not be an obstacle at all, should the new owner have a need for it!
In this condition it is still beautiful and can probably last for decades without any repairs!
Fun extra for the enthusiast:
-He was bought in the early 80's' by the 1st owner (from whom I got it as a gift in 2007) at "the style icon of the Netherlands" (in terms of interior then), "Jan des Bouvrie", .-4 Stickers with his signature (readable) are still on it as well (see white stickers on photos).
-The chair is since 2007 in our bedroom on the second floor of our apartment, where it is anyway forbidden territory for child and pet and never smoked!
