Doris Groeneveld, born November 7, 1938 in Krimpen aan de IJssel and died June 8, 2016 in Schoorl (Bergen NH)), wall painter, environmental artist, painter, screen printer and sculptor.
Doris Groeneveld came from the world of shipbuilding and shipping, but developed herself into an artist in the 1970s. He settled in Bergen and sought artistic affiliation with the Bergen School. In 1976 Doris joins Drukkerstroost, a graphic society with 20 members, who were part of the Bergen Artists Center. Among them: Noor Sternheim, Peter Bes, Nico van Stralen and Leentje Linders.
In his 'West Frisian period' he spent years restlessly in search of the primal elements in the landscape: space, light, land and water and the border between them.
He traveled all over the world (from Ireland to New Zealand, from Spitsbergen to Sardinia, from Iceland to Cyprus, from America to Eenigenburg) and worked out his travel impressions in the studio, using Bergen and the surrounding area as a guide.
Quote from the artist: 'A painting is a journey through images and emotions that I have in my head. I usually start working without a preconceived plan. I see where I end up and I trust that I will automatically encounter images and emotions while painting. I will continue painting on a painting until I have traveled enough and feel that I must embark on a new journey.”
