Designed by karl dittert for the german brand wmf (würtembergische metallwarenfabrik) produced various kitchen items, including kitchen sideboards, mainly in the mid-20th century. Kitchen sideboards made of metal or a combination of metal and wood were popular in the 1950s and 1960s, particularly in Germany and Europe. However, it seems that wmf gradually stopped producing kitchen sideboards in the 1970s, as the brand concentrated more on high-end tableware, kitchen utensils and appliances. Today, wmf is best known for its cutlery, pots and pans, and other sophisticated kitchen items, but more for furniture or accessories such as dessertes. Sideboards from wmf that still exist today are generally vintage pieces sought after by collectors of retro or mid-century design objects.
