About the Artist:Corneille painted in a figurative style with huge color explosions of red, yellow and green. His work is sensual, and some recurring figures are the bared woman, the cat as guardian of chastity, and especially the bird as a symbol of liberation from the earthly and also as a mocker and interlocutor. CORNEILLE (Liege 1922 - Auvers-sur-Oise 2010) Corneille (actually Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo) was an influential Dutch artist, born in 1922 and died in 2010. As a co-founder of the CoBrA movement, an avant-garde group active from 1948 to 1951, Corneille helped renew the art scene. Corneille's style is characterized by vibrant colors, organic forms and a playful approach to composition.
