CORNEILLE was born in Liège as Guillaume Cornelis Beverloo in 1922. He took courses at the Amsterdam Academy, but was mainly self-taught. He was one of the founders of the COBRA movement and was a very prolific artist, producing an enormous amount of paintings, sculptures and graphics. Initially strongly influenced by Picasso, but later with the style characteristics of the COBRA, which Corneille is very familiar with. Corneille worked abstractly, but from the 1960s he worked figuratively with famous women, flowers and birds as subjects. He died in 2010.
