purchased in 2020, side table from Japanese oak
The SPLINTER Round Side Table was designed by Nendo for Conde House, a manufacturer based in Japan's famous Asahikawa wood furniture area. Every piece of wood is split as if it were a husk. The stand of the side table splits to become three legs. Larger pieces of wood have been kept at their original thickness to provide strength where needed, and thin pieces of wood that had been split off have been used for more delicate parts. The wood has been carefully approached, following the grain, so that it retains its original flexibility.
