This model PK61 coffee table, manufactured by Ejvind Kold Christensen in Denmark in 1956, is one of furniture architect Poul Kjaerholm's most famous and iconic creations. The minimalist matte-chromed steel frame supports the fantastic original slate top, which has a lovely grain and dark gray color, where basalt was known. The tray is in beautiful original condition with minimal surface wear, visible in the photos. These basalt tops are one of the few original stone tops that Kold Christensen used for these tables. The frame itself is also in very good condition with minimal wear from age and use over the years. This original table in solid flat steel and matt chromed frame features the EKC Denmark logo printed on one leg. A table to suit every modern home or interior thanks to its combination of neutral yet striking materials. This coffee table was created to complement the PK22 chaise longue, one of EKC's most basic creations, and has had the force of a manifesto ever since. The table was constructed from four welded steel elements, assembled with machine screws and topped with stone or glass plates. Both types of top were honed to create a non-reflective finish that complemented the surface of the steel frame and reinforced the feeling of a single, autonomous object. The reel structure of the base created a square that enabled Kjaerholm to fix each of the four elements at two points, increasing the frame's strength. The result is an iconic, must-have design classic, visually and structurally stable.
