Sam Francis Author: Yves Michaud Publisher: Daniel Papierski ISBN: 2906088072 Binding Method: Cloth binding with dust jacket Number of Pages: 269 Heading: Art > Artists Year: 1992 numbered 4626 of 7000 Price 90 euros Sam Francis (San Mateo, CA, June 25, 1923 - Santa Monica, CA, November 4, 1994) was an American painter who did not really start painting until after 1950, and is therefore classified by Clement Greenberg among the painters of post-abstract expressionism. After an accident in military service during exercises, he had to live in a corset and spent years searching for healing. Even during the many months (1944) he had to lie in the hospital he painted in bed; in his own words, that is why he started painting: to heal himself. In 1947 he started taking painting classes at the University of California, in Berkely.
Light discoloration at edges, not distracting. Adhesive tape marks on endpapers. Litho perfect!
