Product description
A beautiful Art Deco Czech Republic made malachite glass tortoiseshell trinket dish from the 1930s, designed by Curt Schlevogt by Mario Petrucci
Malachite glass is meant to look like malachite (a green copper carbonate mineral), or more commonly, to look like marble. Today, this glass is also often referred to as "slag glass".
Dimensions: H 8cm W 21cm D 12cm
Most molds for Bohemian malachite glass were designed by (American-born) Curt Schlevogt in the 1930s. At the spring fair of 1934 in Leipzig, the Schlevogt company presented its collection of molded glass under the trademark "Ingrid" from the Josef Riedl glass factory in Polubný.
The most artistically impressive shaped glass was the result of the company's collaboration with leading artists, such as Ladislav Prenosil, Zdenek Juna, František Pazourek, Artur Pleva, M. Petrucci, E. Rottenberg and many others.
The successful development of the company was halted by the Second World War and the ultimate blow came with its nationalization in 1945.
