The designers of the New Hague School were the businesslike, functional direction in the Art Deco movement. The furniture that was formed in the twenties and thirties is very modern and luxurious. The straight and cubist shapes of the furniture were characteristic. Functionality was more important than form. They used typical types of wood, Anton Lucas preferred the combination of oak with macassar ebony.
Anton Lucas's N.V. Meubelkunst (N.V. Furniture Art) clearly made furniture for a wealthy clientele. The pieces of furniture were exclusive, exuberant in shapes, eccentric and combined that with comfort and a sense of status.
This cabinet has been in the same Dutch family for over 100 years. They also lived in the city Leiden, like the designer Anton Lucas.
The interior of their house was mostly design from Anton Lucas, resulting in a luxurious Art Deco interior with this big dresser, a tea cabinet, radiocabinet, nightstands, mirrors, dining table and dining chairs. Every piece handmade by Anton Lucas N.V. Meubelkunst in Leiden, the Netherlands.
