Product description
vintage milk jug Arabia Finland from the Kilta series (1952) mark B.A on bottom of jug designer Kaj Franck (1911-1089) At the outbreak of World War II in 1939, Arabia was the largest porcelain factory in Europe and employed more than a thousand people. But by the end of the war, the important export market had been severely weakened. In 1945, Kaj Franck was hired as the new designer, and he proved to be exactly the force Arabia needed. Three years later, he succeeded Kurt Ekholm as artistic director of the factory. Franck created an entirely new take on dinnerware with a focus on a simple but beautiful meal environment. The postwar years were difficult in Finland. There was a lack of everything, not the least dinnerware. Franck therefore designed the Kilta series where each piece had multiple functions. The idea was that consumers could buy individual pieces and still have a functional set. Kilta could also be combined with older dinnerware series. Franck promoted mixing and matching, which was a revolutionary new idea.
minimal traces of normal use, only very small, light, superficial scratches
